In this paper the authors study the fivebrane as a magnetic source for the three-form potential of M theory (not as a solution of \(D=11\) supergravity) and divide the fields up into bulk fields and zero mode fields which are localized on the fivebrane. It is shown that it allows us to understand the cancellation of all anomalies.
