It is shown that the constructions that can be performed by ruler, compass, and an instrument allowing the drawing of ellipses are precisely those that can be performed with the marked ruler, since the coordinates of both sets of constructible points belong to Vietan fields (ordered fields in which all at most fourth degree polynomials that change sign have roots). Thus, trisecting the angle and doubling the cube can be performed in this setting.
