This is a clearly written survey paper on twisted commutative algebraic groups and applications to discrete log-based crytography. The author puts discrete log based cryptography in the context of tensor products of commutative algebraic groups and Galois modules (i.e., twisted commutative algebraic groups). A number of examples are given (for example, quadratic twists of elliptic curves) to illustrate the definitions and results in an explicit way.
