The paper is concerned with the time evolution of network rewiring models. Two different rewiring schemes are formulated, that is rewiring from a randomly selected node and from a neighbor one. The assumptions necessary for the network rewiring process are formulated. The equilibrium distributions are analytically derived. Besides, the validity of modeling by ordinary differential equations is studied by comparing the analytic results to the results of extensive numeric simulations. It is proven that the number of nodes and the total number of links in the network are conserved by the rewiring process.
