The author consider the Cauchy problem for the damped nonlinear Schrödinger equation in \({\mathbb R}^n\), when the initial data is an infinite sum of delta functions. The mutual influence of nonlinearity and damping on the behavior of the solution, leading either to blowup or to global existence of a solution, is analyzed.
