The authors develop the Lie group analysis for nonlinear kinetic equations. As a demonstration of their methods, they describe the admitted group of point symmetries of the Boltzmann equation by proving that all such symmetries are found in previous articles by the first author [Math. Models Methods Appl. Sci. 3, No.~4, 443--476 (1993; Zbl 0782.35078)] and by \textit{Yu. N. Grigoryev, S. V. Meleshko} and \textit{P. Sattayatham} [J. Phys. A, Math. Gen. 32, No.~28, L331--L343 (1999; Zbl 0962.82061)], and that there are no other symmetries.
