The authors study electric current distributions in cylindrical coils with non-uniformly spaced transverse windings of a strip conductor attached to a time-harmonic current source. The numerical procedure of finding the resulting current in such transverse gradient coils is based on the Petrov-Galerkin method using the Legendre polynomial expansion. The obtained results indicate a global and local, and non-symmetric current distributions near the inner edge of a loop. This effect is more pronounced at higher frequencies of the source. The considered coil set-up generates magnetic fields of specific topologies commonly used in Magnetic Resonance Imaging devices.
