The author presents a set of axioms for 3-dimensional hyperbolic geometry which builds on \textit{O. Veblen}'s [AMS Trans. 5, 343--384 (1904; JFM 35.0495.02)] system of axioms of affine geometry together with an axiom of symmetry and an axiom of ``rigidity''. The proposed system of axioms can be applied to describe hyperbolic geometry using elementary techniques.
