The paper presents an anisotropic nonconforming finite element method applied to solve the Sobolev equations in a bounded domain. These equations arise from modeling flows in porous media. Existence and uniqueness proofs are given for the solution of the semidiscrete scheme. Error estimates and convergence results of the fully discretized problem are also derived. Numerical results in two space dimensions using anisotropic meshes illustrate the theoretical results and yield optimal convergence rates.
