Let \(N\) be the normaliser subgroup of a maximal torus of \(Sp(n)\). Using a method of \textit{A. H. Clifford} [Ann. Math. (2) 38, 533--550 (1937; Zbl 0017.29705)], the author determines the irreducible characters of \(N\), and subsequently derives a combinatorial formula for the multiplicities of the irreducible representations of \(N\) occurring in the restriction of an arbitrary irreducible representation of \(Sp(n)\) to \(N\).
