The authors consider the Cauchy problem for a one-dimensional bipolar Euler-Poisson system, which is a hydrodynamic model with electric field. Initial values are equal at \(\pm\infty\). The existence of the unique global weak solution is proved and the optimal decay rate is obtained. Energy estimates and the Duhamel principle are used.
