The author studies boundedness and compactness on the space \(L^2(-1,1)\) for singular integral operators with Cauchy kernel [cf.\ \textit{N.\,I.\thinspace Muskhelishvili}, ``Singular integral equations'', Nauka, Moscow (\({}^3\)1968; Zbl 0174.16202), English translation (\({}^3\)1967; Zbl 0174.16201); \textit{F.\,D.\thinspace Gakhov}, ``Boundary value problems'' (Moskva:\ Izdatel'stvo ``Nauka'') (\({}^3\)1977; Zbl 0449.30030), English translation (1966; Zbl 0141.08001)]. Precise results are given in the case when the coefficients of the operators satisfy the Dini condition.
