This paper is concerned with the problem of exponential stability for a class of nonlinear functional differential equations. The system under consideration is nonautonomous and the delay is time-varying. Using an improved Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, neither model variable transformation nor bounding restriction on nonlinear perturbations is required, the authors establish new conditions for the exponential stability and stabilization of the system. The conditions are given in terms of the solution of a Riccati differential equation.
