Legendre pseudospectral method uses orthogonal polynomials to approximate the state space and control space in an optimal control problem. So, this method converts the infinite-dimension problem to a finite-dimension problem of nonlinear programming. Here the authors apply the pseudospectral method to the trajectory optimization of a small three-stage rocket. Based on the simulation results, rejection time of fairing is analyzed.
