This concise monograph represents a summary of theoretical results obtained by the authors on the problem of scattering of photons from the X-ray spectrum of electrons belonging to inner shells of atoms, ions, and small molecules. The consideration is focused on the anomalous scattering near the ionization threshold, and the main attention is paid to multi-electron effects in the scattering of a single photon. Most results are obtained in an analytical form, using the nonrelativistic quantum-mechanical perturbation theory at the second order. The influence of postcollision effects on the scattering cross sections is also taken into regard. Some results are obtained, also in an analytical form, beyond the framework of perturbation theory. It is claimed that this was done ``for the first time in scientific practice''. The book is intended for active researchers and graduate students.
