In this nicely written paper, the authors show how certain techniques based on the singular value decomposition (SVD) or on the QR decomposition of the fundamental matrix solution can be used to determine whether or not a system has exponential dichotomy on the real line. They also point out that for several classes of differential equations the existence of exponential dichotomy may be determined from information on finite intervals up to exponentially small perturbations.
