In the present paper an extension of Melan's theorem [see \textit{W. T. Koiter} in Progress in solid mechanics (I. N. Sneddon and R. Hill (eds.)) (1960; Zbl 0090.173); p. 167] is proposed for certain classes of finite displacements within the framework of the continuum theory.
