The hydromagnetic stability of a compressible flow in a rotating stratified fluid system is investigated. The system is found to be stable to axisymmetric disturbances, whereas it is unstable to non-axisymmetric disturbances. A quadrant theorem on the slow waves characteristic of the rapidly rotating fluid is established.
