A band is an idempotent semigroup. It is shown that if S is an infinite band, then there exists a sequence \(S_ 1\subset S_ 2\subset...\subset S_ n\subset...\), \(n\in N\), of strictly increasing subbands such that \(S=\cup_{i\in N}S_ i\).
