Nonconservative stability problems of columns, in which coupled flexural- torsional vibration occurs, are systematically investigated in detail by describing the space trajectories of eigenvalues. A column with a channel section is chosen as a typical member of which the coordinates are dynamically and statically coupled. In the analysis, an equation of virtual work for geometrical nonlinear vibration of a column with thin- walled open cross-section under concentrated and distributed tangential follower loads is used and the five-terms approximation of the extended Galerkin method is applied.
