Exact unsteady solutions are sought, which describe a plane flow of the Poiseuille type for the Rivlin-Eriksen fluids for arbitrary pressure drop. All flows considered here become, after infinitely long times, a plane steady Poiseuille flow. In particular cases the results obtained here coincide with those obtained earlier in by the second author and \textit{B. Siddappa} [J. Karnatak Univ. 21, 89-93 (1976; Zbl 0375.76006)]. Certain statements formulated without proof are strictly proved here.
