An analysis is made of the modification of linear random water waves by a slowly varying bottom topography, using a perturbation expansion of the amplitude functions. Unlike \textit{V. A. Borovikov} and \textit{A. V. Popov} [see the review above (Zbl 0564.76027)], the eikonal function is not expressed as a perturbation expansion, which places restrictions on the validity of the results. It is a competent exercise in the use of random variables.
