Techniques for the solution of MHD generator flows (Q1058434)

The objective of this paper is to examine two aspects of MHD generator analysis. The first aspect concerns techniques for the solution of the set of MHD equations and their appropriate boundary conditions under the quasi-one-dimensional flow approximation. The second aspect deals with the approach required for satisfying the MHD generator design and performance objectives. The solution technique is based on an iterative shooting approach. Design and operational constraints imposed on the analysis are reviewed. How these constraints are satisfied, as well as the solution techniques themselves, are illustrated by three examples.
