Two additions to an earlier paper of the author [ibid. 16, 205-211 (1983; Zbl 0511.10018)] are made: the first is to show that a given real algebraic number reduces in a bounded, effectively computable number of steps; the second is to characterize under what conditions a form of even degree is equivalent to its negative.
