The following theorem is proved: An infinite dimensional algebraic Jordan algebra with the maximal condition for associative subalgebras is a finite direct sum of a finite dimensional algebra and infinite dimensional algebras of symmetric bilinear forms over a finite extension of the basic field. The existence of such an infinite dimensional algebra is discussed.
