A formal algorithm is given for the systematic exact evaluation of higher order partial derivatives of functions of many variables. The algorithm improves upon the method of \textit{R. E. Wengert} [Commun. Assoc. Comput. Machin. 7, 463-464 (1964; Zbl 0131.346)] in two key respects. Applications are envisioned wherever gradients, Jacobians, Hessians, and power series expansions could be employed.
