It is proved that stunted real projective spaces have the same stable homotopy type if and only if they are distinguished by the Adams operations in real K-theory. The difficult part is the construction of equivalences in a few cases where the relationship of the image of the J- homomorphism to the homotopy groups of stunted projective spaces must be studied carefully.
