\textit{M. Bendersky} and \textit{D. M. Davis} [Am. J. Math. 107, 833-852 (1985)] have conjectured some strong non-immersion theorems for real projective spaces. The present paper studies the relation of the work of Bendersky and Davis with various results in Brown-Peterson cohomology. This work is largely superseeded by the remarkable paper of \textit{D. M. Davis} [Ann. Math., II. Ser. 120, 517-528 (1984)].
