In a recent paper, \textit{A. A. Sukhanov} [Zh. Vychisl. Mat. Mat. Fiz. 23, 228-231 (1983; Zbl 0522.65055)] derived a new method for transforming a nonlinear two-point boundary value problem into an initial-value problem. Sukhanov's equations involve only the solution of ordinary differential equations and not partial differential equations. The method is revolutionary and could have far reaching implications in control theory. Numerical results are given.
