In this paper the authors develop a one-dimensional viscoplastic constitutive theory for highly filled polymeric materials, such as those used in solid propellants and high explosives. The theory is based on the following hypotheses: (i) there is a constitutive quantity p, which is related to the strain through an elastic-plastic stress-strain law; (ii) the true stress t is related to p through a linear viscoelastic law. A procedure for determining the constitutive functions is presented. The theory is used to study three different materials. The comparison of theory and experiment is presented.
