Extending an example of \textit{H. Abels} [Lond. Math. Soc. Lect. Note Ser. 36, 205-211 (1979; Zbl 0422.20026)] the author constructs finitely presented soluble groups which do not satisfy the maximal condition for normal subgroups, but which have all central sections finitely generated. This answers a question posed originally by \textit{Ph. Hall} [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., III. Ser. 4, 419-436 (1954; Zbl 0056.256)].
