For metrizable spaces, characterizations are obtained of the property of having both large transfinite dimension Ind and strong small transfinite dimension sind, in terms of the rank of bases and the existence of certain developments. A characterization of separable metric spaces with this property by means of embeddings into the Hilbert cube is also obtained.
