On the problem of oblique penetration of an axisymmetric solid into soil (Q1060884)

The article considers the problem of oblique penetration of a rigid cone into soil at an angle of attack. The soil is assumed to be a plastically compressible medium. In the process of penetration, the shock wave that forms is assumed to be attached to the vertex of the cone. The trajectories of the penetrating body and all the parameters of motion are determined. It is shown that, in the case of ricochet, the angle of approach is roughly equal to the angle of exit of the body from the soil.
