The authors examine the use of a matrix structure for representing collections of performance measures as ordinary subsets of organizational activities. The linkage between organizational components and their activities gives rise to a representation of collections of performance measures as fuzzy subsets of organizational components. It is shown that the fuzzy representation can be used to compare alternative collections of performance measures and provide insights to the value of these collections of measures for decisionmaking and control purposes. An example involving the performance evaluation of university professors is presented.
