The authors consider a model describing the interaction of n populations with mutual interference among some or all of them, which introduces sublinearities into the system so that it no longer can be thought of as a dynamical system. A set of transformations is introduced to transform the system into a dynamical system provided the mutual interference is not 'too strong'. The technique is applied to study the persistence of a simple food chain and the question of invasibility of a stable community by a new subpopulation.
