Consider the system (*) \(dx/dt=P(t)x,\) \(t_ 0\leq t<\infty\), where \(x=col(x_ 1,x_ 2)\), \(P(t)=[p_{ij}(t)]\), \(i,j=1,2\), \(P(t)\in C[t_ 0,\infty)\). The author shows that the general solution of the system (*) may be written with the help of two auxiliary functions. He also investigates the variability of this solution and considers the problem of evaluating the characteristic indices of the system (*).
