For the Leslie-matrix population projection model, a simple auxiliary quantity, termed the single-year reduced growth factor, is introduced and used to deduce bounds for the growth factor of the model, i.e. the dominant eigenvalue of the Leslie matrix involved. Extension to the case of internal survival in the age groups and reformulation of parameter sensitivity are briefly discussed.
