The following machine repair problem is analyzed: The system consists of \(N=M+S\) identical machines with M machines initially operating, S machines as spares and at most R repair facilities being simultaneously available. Assuming a non-Markovian system an approximate formula for the mean number of failed machines in the system is derived using a diffusion model approach.
