A finite groupoid, G, is said to be inherently nonfinitely based if every locally finite variety containing G is nonfinitely based. In this paper a general criterion for a finite idempotent groupoid to be inherently nonfinitely based is given and examples are produced of three such groupoids of order 3, two of them being also commutative.
