\textit{G. Dahlquist} [Math. Scand. 4, 33-53 (1956; Zbl 0071.118)] proved that under the condition of zero-stability the order of linear k-step methods is bounded by \(2[(k+2)/2]\). In the present paper we provide a proof of this celebrated result by using the theory of order stars.
