An exterior differential 1-form w is said to be finitely determined if its orbit has finite codimension in the space of all forms. The author announces a criterion for a form w to be finitely determined in terms of its class defined by \textit{J. Martinet} [Ann. Inst. Fourier 20, No.1, 95- 178 (1970; Zbl 0189.100)].
