The paper deals with some analytical improvements concerning the technique based on the use of a Fourier transform coupled with the \(F_ N\)-method introduced by the second authors in a previous paper [ibid. 34, 627-641 (1983; Zbl 0548.45006)], for the solution of the searchlight problem in radiation transport. The computational aspects of the method are reported in detail. Some numerical results (for a normally incident beam) complete the paper.
