The evolution of global temperature in the core of a high voltage electric cable is studied. The core of the cable is a heterogeneous medium in the sense that the conducting wires are periodically distributed and the insulation is not perfect and has small thermal conductivity. Two expressions for the temperature are obtained depending on the smallness of the parameters characterising thermal conductivity and the period of the distribution of conducting wires. Functional analysis is used to prove the results stated.
