Probabilistic arguments are given to establish the results of \textit{W. Lin} and \textit{P. R. Kumar}, IEEE Trans. Autom. Control AC-29, 696-703 (1984; Zbl 0546.90035). The approach is simpler than the policy iteration method originally used and could be useful for similar problems.
