A method is proposed for organizing query processing in relational data base management systems in which a query is first analyzed by an appropriate mapping of the data base from external to internal memory. Data that are irrelevant for the final answer are eliminated from the relations being processed. As a result, the query processing time is reduced by reducing the number of processed records and the number of swaps between external and internal memory.
