The distribution of the normal modes of wave propagation in a weakly nonhomogeneous wave guide is considered. The excitation coefficient of the normal modes for a point source as well as the field near the source are determined. The procedure used by the author consists in constructing a uniform asymptotic expansion, with respect to a small parameter, of the solution of the boundary value problem for a point source by employing an appropriate Green function.
