The evolution equations of plastic flow and creep often amount to a degenerate problem, and nearly always they represent a singular differential equation problem, as will be illustrated by discussing an ordinary differential equation model. The singular character will be removed by substituting the primary problem by a regularized one, to which a control term must be added for numerical reasons.
