In this paper, a unified approach to solving combined/coupled electromagnetic and steady state heat conduction problems is described. The technique is illustrated by application to an illustrative slot embedded conductor problem in electrical machines carrying a.c. current. An integrated finite element software package used in this analyses entitled GE2D is described. The results obtained are illustrated by means of magnetic flux and isothermal plots.
