We study the mechanics of the ventilatory system by mathematical modeling. We include in our model the regulatory function of the system, which is the minimization of the energy cost required for the gaseous exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide. Numerical analysis techniques have been used for the mathematical model, and a new optimization technique, called ALIENOR, has been tried for the minimization of the energy required.
