To any elliptic surface \(f: X\to S\) (over \({\mathbb{C}})\) with a section one can associate two natural representations: the monodromy representation and the Galois representation. The authors prove that monodromy representation determines Galois representation and that in some respect the monodromy representation is a more subtle invariant.
